You’re looking at your old driveway and wondering if it is worth replacing it and especially wondering how long will your new asphalt driveway last.
Spring Paving Maintenance
It might not seem like it some days but Spring is right around the corner! We love this time of year because the sun is out and at Spencer Paving, we get very busy. Spring is a great time to install new driveways and parking lots and get our asphalt on the ground and ready for use the rest of the year. Now, the question is, are you ready for Spring maintenance on your blacktop driveway?
So, we’ve just come out of winter and as you know the snow and cold can be brutal on your pavement. Sometimes it can leave cracks, pot holes, sink spots or expose other damage related to the freezing and thawing of the asphalt. Now is the time to check your driveway or parking lot to find these issues and repair them before they get worse. Here is what you should do:
Look
Examine your space. Do you see cracks starting to form? Maybe your parking lot has developed a pot hole? It is important to deal with these issues as soon as possible. Cracks can lead to a weakened driveway when water enters them and freezes and expands. Potholes can expose you to liabilities if people fall or get hurt on them. Save yourself time and money later by dealing with these issues early.
Clean
Once you are fully thawed out from winter it is a good time to give your driveway a good cleaning. This includes dealing with stains but also don’t forget to keep weeds away. Weeds can pop up in the most peculiar places sometimes and they can damage your pavement. Be sure to edge around your driveway to keep vegetation from damaging the edges of your property. Added bonus, your space will look better.
Repair
Summer time is the best time to repair any flaws in your driveway. Repairing major cracking or pot holes is vital to preserving your driveway to help it last many more years. Doing repairs in preparation for the next winter season insures no moisture is under your asphalt for the next big freeze. Are you noticing small cracks in your pavement? It may be time to do some Crack-filling and Seal coating of your driveway. We have discussed seal coating in a previous blog, What Is Sealcoating to explain the process.
Paint
Can you no longer tell where the lines of one parking spot start and one ends? It might be time to re-paint your parking lot lines, speed bumps and handicapped areas. This is not only something that will make your property look nicer it will also help your clients, customers and patrons, especially those that are handicapped, to be able to easily see where they can park.
These are just a few things you can do to make sure your asphalt driveway or parking lot stands the test of time. If you are late to the game and your driveway is in need of repair or a complete replacement call us today before our schedule fills up!
