Our founder, Bernard Smith, was a big believer in community. Barney was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and helping his fellow veterans was import to him. Barney was a generous man, always willing to help anyone in need, if they needed a donation he provided it; if equipment was needed, he supplied it; if time was needed, he was available. From food banks to fire departments Barney was always there to lend a hand, or a building, or whatever was needed.
Barney loved to travel, tell stories, be with his family and those that became family just from knowing him. No one will ever be able to take his place. One thing is for sure, he made a huge impact on our business and the people who knew him. Many have said that they are more involved in the community because of the example he set forth, they help their fellow man in his memory, they do what they can to keep his spirit alive. At Spencer Paving we will do everything we can to keep Barney’s spirit alive, we will keep his hard hat on his desk just like he used to, we will help our community just like he used to and we will do everything we can to make this world a better place, just like he did. R.I.P. Barney Smith, the world lost a hero when you left but Heaven gained one.
