Preparing For Your New Driveway

So you have decided it is time to update/re-do your driveway. This is an overly exciting time for you, and if you made the wise decision to hire Spencer Paving, an exciting time for us as well. :-)

The thing is, it is not just as easy as us coming in and BOOM, there is your new driveway. There are things that need to be taken into consideration. Here are a few key things to keep in mind when getting a new driveway.

If your current driveway is damaged and has ruts, you may need to have stormwater issues addressed. We might need to re-route some water so that puddling no longer occurs. This is something we can assess and address for you.

Another issue that may be causing existing driveway damage are tree roots. If you have large trees growing next to your driveway the roots can work their way under your driveway and heave up the asphalt. Alternatively, sometimes you may need trees removed if you would like to widen your driveway. It would be important to have a tree service come and address these issues before we begin work. If your trees fall under our land clearing excavation services, we can certainly take care of those for you.

Then the time comes when we work on your driveway. Do you park in your driveway overnight? Have you determined where you are going to park not only while we are working at your home but also when we are done?  After we have completed your driveway it is important that you not drive on your new asphalt for at least 72 hours and that you not park on it for 14 days. It is a good idea to figure out where you are going to keep your car during that time. Wheel turns can leave marks in asphalt and are one of the reasons not to park on the asphalt after it has been placed.

Did you know you also cannot walk on your new asphalt for at least 24 hours after it has been compacted? If you typically use your driveway as a walkway to your entrance it is important that you take this into consideration.
